June

June has been an exciting month for us so far with the fishing often exceeding the high expectations that we set for it.We will need to do this report in 3 parts to cover it all. Customer appreciation sale June 20th-23rd. See photo for details.

Trout

Rising fish is a common sight with bugs on the water more often than not and we now have activity on Lake Superior and Lake Michigan tributaries. It is a sight to see with sulphurs, brown drakes, caddis stones and a few Iso's in the mix. I have found the fishing to be best for dry fly in the evenings, but we have had some pretty solid action all day when it has been cloudy or raining. The only downside is the mosquito population. They are bad this year. Really bad. Be prepared with bugstopper clothing and head nets. I hate wearing head nets, but this is the year to carry one. The good news is the traffic has been light especially in the evenings with the skeeters keeping the causal fisher people off the water.

Warmwater

Bass are center stage for most people right now and the fishing has been great with all methods producing.

Topwater for the fly and gear angler in the mornings and evenings has produced some big fish. The Mayfly hatches are going strong and we have another month plus to fish them. Fish are moving into typical summer patterns.

Big Lake

Salmon specifically kings, are hitting pretty good just like last spring. Kings in the high teens are being caught which is fantastic for Lake Superior fish. Stickbaits and spoons are the go to baits for silver fish and a few colors are doing better than others. Stop by and we can point them out. We have moved out to deeper water 40 feet plus, but they are many fish in the upper range no matter the depth. Long lining with boards has been the way to go and a bunch of eater Lakers are mixed in with the salmon.
