Sights on Spring
The days are getting longer, the air warmer, and the sun brighter. That means spring is approaching! Looks like most of the area is going to have a decent snow pack to melt off this year. We're eyeing up what could be a pretty good year for water levels on the steelhead tribs. Last years' success for the fly guys came from a couple different nymph patterns like rainbow warriors and guide's choice bugs. Conventional guys love the beads in the spring, but had good luck on jigs and waxies throughout as well. Ice conditions will start deteriorating, so tread carefully if chasing ice-out fish. The perch bite should really turn on here soon.
A couple cool events to keep in mind if you're looking to get out of the house soon. Friday April 4th-Sunday April 6th is the Boat, Sport, and RV Show here in Marquette at the Superior Dome. Great deals on RV's, Boats, ATV's, and just about anything else you need for outdoor recreation. We'll be there with some show specials and cool stuff to show ya. Plenty of other vendors come and showcase their outdoor recreation products as well.
Also on April 5th at NMU's Northern Center will be the Inaugural Upper Peninsula Fly Fishing Film Festival (UP4F). Brought to you by the local Fred Waara Chapter of Trout Unlimited this will be their key fundraising event for the year. Come enjoy drinks, food, music, and a selection of midwest local fishing films. We'll be there showcasing some of our favorite rods for the area, as well as some casting demos. Other vendors, guides, and possibly industry Sales Representatives will be there as well to talk trout. The link to tickets will be included below.
While we anxiously await the open water, we're still working to get our fly boxes filled. Surely, you are as well. So be sure to check out our fly tying section as well. See ya at the shop!
